MEDIA AMBITION TOKYO 2014, was held from Feb. 7th to Mar. 30th 2014, at its primary location of Roppongi Hills, for the 2nd time since its debut last year. The event was held at both the “Tokyo City View” observation deck on the 52 floor of Roppongi Hills, and at INTERSECT BY LEXUS in Aoyama. 18 works by 16 artists were exhibited here; a celebration of leading Japanese art, video, music and performance; a showcase of technology art that brought the city to life.
One of the works on display at the main venue was the piece, “Physical presence”, by INTERSECT BY LEXUS and creative group RHIZOMATIKS. This work integrated the high spec. and iconic LFA super car which released only 500 cars in the world in 2012, and the “Nurburbing Package”, of which there are only 50 in the world. The installation reflected the cars’ high performance and global appeal with creative use of sound and light.
INTERSECT BY LEXUS stood in as the secondary Aoyama venue for the event and housed installations by 2 artists. Kosei Komatsu’s “Lifelog Glider” and “Secret Garden”, which used devices that control natural phenomenon, to create poetic environments remained on display until February 20. From March 10 to 30 in the first floor garage space, leading light artist Hiroyuki Moriwaki’s “atto car” and “Ripple of light” was exhibited. These works, created in conjunction with INTERSECT BY LEXUS were unique to the event, and many people turned out to see it.
3 talk sessions were also organized around the same time at both INTERSECT BY LEXUS and Tokyo City View. These rare opportunities focused on the potential of technology and art, and included explanations of art installations by the artists themselves.
