INTERSECT BY LEXUS, the LEXUS city hub for lifestyle and culture, has established its own music label, INTERSECT BY LEXUS RECORDS. Supervised by TOWA TEI, the DJ who also acts as sound producer for INTERSECT BY LEXUS – TOKYO, the label’s first LP release, INTERSECT BY LEXUS RECORDS #001, was released today (July 22nd), featuring a new track by TEI and an exclusive live recording from an event at INTERSECT in March.
In recent years, there has been a revival of interest in analog music among young consumers in America and Europe. In Japan too, sales of LPs have increased. While CD sales continue to suffer, music fans have returned to the unique quality of sound offered by analog recordings. From the jacket artwork to the physical feel of the record and the sense of the needle making contact with the vinyl, new listeners have been drawn to the special character of analog music.
LEXUS has long been particular about the “sound” a driver experiences in a vehicle, as part of the brand’s pursuit of the maximum possible sensual drive. In the same way, LEXUS also seeks to reappraise what makes certain sounds rich in lifestyle values. Partnering with acclaimed DJ TOWA TEI to create this new analog music release was a natural choice to develop these efforts.
Comment by TOWA TEI
Analog music is a woodcut print with sound. It is art that you can casually dress up. Just as I was thinking about fun things currently in fashion, along came LEXUS and offered to make something with me. This kind of play is real luxury. In ten years’ time this will be an antique. Be sure to buy it while you can.
