The latest in the popular annual series of kakigori-style shaved ice desserts offers up a truly summery feast for the eyes and taste buds. The first thing you will notice is the soft and fluffy cotton candy that is as big as the bowl containing the ice. A delight just as it is or with sauces, this cotton candy is an original blend of Kyoto hojicha roasted green tea and Hokkaido mint. After encountering the pleasantly sharp and fragrant flavor of the hojicha, your mouth fills with the refreshing taste of the mint.

For the sauces, you get two classic choices: strawberry and condensed milk. The thick strawberry sauce uses four or five whole Japanese summer strawberries. Relish the luxury that is sweet, but not too sweet, complemented by the distinctively sharp and acidic tang of the summer strawberries.

Made with Tokyo milk, the condensed milk sauce is subtly sweet and the perfect companion to the strawberry sauce. The shaved ice is served with condensed milk ice cream that is made from the same milk as the sauce. Rich and milky, it goes very well with the shaved ice but is also just as good on its own. If it melts before you have time to finish, pour it over the shaved ice and savor every last mouthful. Once again, the fluffy white ice is natural ice from Karuizawa and comes in a vacuum-insulated titanium bowl that slows the melting process.
